What’s REALLY going on in Enfield (and now Brixton)

EDIT: It’s kicking off in Hackney now.

By the looks of the lack of the news coverage, there seems to be a bit of a media blackout on the riots that are taking place right now in Enfield, London.

I have a few friends in the area as it’s happening, and here are a few quotes about what is really going on that for some reason, they don’t want you to know about… Bear in mind, this is all information I’ve heard firsthand, not seen firsthand, so don’t quote me on anything.

Cineworld has been set on fire.
Krispy Kreme has also been hit and the rioting group is moving up Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill.
Tesco worker: “The windows smashed and they just came pouring in from all four sides.
‎”Looters at Comet nicking stuff and then waiting at the bus stop with it!!.”
Forget about Enfield, I see youths marching towards the police station in Southgate.
Pearsons in Enfield High Street on fire.
They’re throwing petrol bombs onto random cars on the A10.

There are fucking petrol bombs being thrown onto passing cars, yet there are NO media reports on it. Turn on the BBC, Sky News, anything… there’s nothing. Why on Earth are we being kept in the dark about what’s really happening and just reporting about how “nothing’s going on in Tottenham”.

It’s like the Stoke’s Croft Riots from a few weeks ago. Nothing that actually happened during that whole incident. It makes me sick. You want the real story, stick to the social networks.

I’ll keep updating as I hear more.

UPDATES:

I’ve just driven through Enfield & can honestly say I’ve never seen so many pockets of gangs wearing hoodies stood on every street corner.
Teenager stabbed outside Edmonton WorkingMen’s Conservative Club. Medics on scene.
Listening to the never ending sound of sirens as police & fire engines rush to the riots in Enfield. This is scary people.
This is orchestrated. Teenagers on the streets saying there has long been “a plan” to be at EdmontonGreen at midnight.
The riots in tottenham and enfield are a great advert to the world for london2012.” – too true
The Krispy Kreme fire – hardly a “scuffle” as the BBC are reporting it.
I recommend you check out these images.

Sky News just blamed “social media” and specifically Twitter for these riots. They say they’re using it to “literally fuel the fire”.

Many Enfield and Edmonton Green looters are in cars. Proving impossible to keep up.
Rioters construct flaming barricade on Magic Roundabout; Avoid A414 from Jarman Park.
Now it’s going racial (if it wasn’t bad enough already) – “Fundamental Christians following kids round saying “Your blood is in Jesus.” http://yfrog.com/ki3zqflj

Screw this media blackout. Apparently it’s because the police don’t want to escalate violence in other parts of the country. What happened to our right to know what’s really going on in the country we live in. Orwell was right. Big Brother is watching.
Confirmed burnt down shops. Krispy Kreme, TGI Fridays, Nandos” – is this really still a “scuffle” BBC?

Sky News just updated at Midnight: “Police have arrested a few youths following scuffles with the police earlier”. Is that all that’s really going on? No. It’s not even the lead headline. Apparently Man Utd beating Man City is a bigger story.
This guy looks really dangerous, right? – http://twitpic.com/62iwlu
“Route from Enfield to Edmonton Green strewn with debris and smashed windows”

SkyNews midnight update: “I’m a few miles away, but there have only been a few minor scuffles but it’s nothing on the scale of last night.” – How do you know from “a few miles away”
Apparently it’s on the way down to Ponder’s Green now with cars being vandalised en route.
Another blog worth following – http://thewestlondoner.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/breaking-riots-in-enfield-edmonton-brixton/
Hemel Hempstead Primark’s apparently just gone up in flames. This is spreading, even as Enfield and Edmonton are seemingly calming down. Reporters from the mainstream news agencies are being dispatched to Brixton now.
More pretty good pictures – http://twitpic.com/photos/RochelleGold
It’s on in Dalston. Just saw gang carrying stuff off from the market entrance of Kingsland shopping centre.
So, what’s happening in Enfield is “nowhere near as bad as last night?” according to Sky News? No, looks tame – http://lockerz.com/s/127571660
Seems like it’s moved on from Enfield now. Watch out if you’re in the surrounding area.

NOW IT’S IN BRIXTON
Footlocker on Brixton High St is ablaze. There’s an awful lot of arsonists out tonight.” – pictures confirm
Reports of youths now throwing more stones and bottles at police in Brixton. No news from elsewhere at the moment – Enfield seems to have calmed down or dissipated. Walthamstow hasn’t had any new activity in a little while either.

Dear readers.
Just checked out my viewer stats for the evening. Tens of thousands. Madness. Thanks to everyone who has tuned in this evening, and I’ve love to sit here for hours upon end and keep everyone updated, but I’m seriously beat and am going to have to call it a night.

Drop a comment below if you’re keeping up with the goings on and you can have some of my traffic.

I’ll end with this thought. This country is fucked.
Rioters can seemingly get away with marching uncontrollably through the streets with no regard for their fellow man – vandalising other people’s properties and looting shops – with near ZERO official media feedback on it is truly disgusting. As much as we might kid ourselves, we don’t live in a “free society” that allows freedom of speech. It seems that the police / government still have the overwhelming power to silence the reporters because they “fear for our national security”. Personally, I’d be more fearful of driving home late at night through a riot I didn’t know was happening because they didn’t let anyone report on it.

Thank God for social media.

About Andy Valentine

When I was young I dreamt of being a musician, but that didn't quite work out. Then I wanted to be an architect, then an artist, then a software designer, and most recently, a musician again. Somehow, as I approach the dreaded 3-0, I've managed to forge a life where I get paid to sing amplified nonsense at people and teaching others to do the same. It's awesome. This blog is a glimpse into my somewhat broken mind. Be afraid.
